COMPUTING SCIENCE FiberSense – Multi-touch Fibre Optic Sensing on Non-Planar Surfaces

چکیده
Multi-touch interfaces based on light and optical fibres offer many advantages over alternative technologies. Existing multi-touch devices either use complex custom electronic sensor arrays, or a camera that must be placed relatively distant from the interface. FiberSense is an easily constructed light-sensing multi-touch interface. Using an array of optical fibres, reflected light is channelled to a camera. As the fibres are flexible the camera is free to be positioned so as to allow fibres to be routed anywhere within the interfaces. The resulting effect is a tangible interface that can be produced in any shape, with a complete surface of optical sensors. We describe our prototype, its novel calibration process, and virtual camera software used to easily take advantage of the device. © 2009 University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Optical Touch Sensing on Nonparametric Rear-Projection Surfaces for Interactive Physical-Virtual Experiences
We demonstrate a generalizable method for unified multitouch detection and response on various nonparametric and parametric surfaces to support interactive physical–virtual experiences. The method employs multiple infrared (IR) cameras, one or more projectors, IR light sources, and a rear-projection surface. IR light reflected off human fingers is captured by cameras with matched IR pass filter...
متن کاملInvestigation of structural parameter dependence of confinement losses in PCF–FBG sensor for oil and gas sensing applications
Photonic crystal fibre (PCF)–fibre bragg grating (FBG) integration opens up new possibilities in multi-parameter fibre-optic sensing, owing to their active control over light characteristics and mode confinements. Their integration results in a mismatch in their mode field diameters (MFDs), which in turn causes various types of losses such as confinement loss, scattering loss, etc. This paper p...
متن کاملHigh time resolution fibre optic sensing system based on correlation and differential technique
A novel fibre optic sensing system with a high time resolution of less than 0.04 ps based on an optical pulse correlation measurement mechanism and differential detection technique is investigated. The optical pulse correlation state corresponding to time drift in fibre optic transmission lines is detected by SHG. The results of temperature and strain sensing experiments demonstrate an excellen...

Recent progress in electronic, display and sensing technologies makes possible a future with omnipresent, arbitrarily large interactive display surfaces. Nonetheless, current methods of designing display systems with multi-touch sensitivity do not scale. This thesis presents computing surfaces as a viable platform for resolving forthcoming scalability limitations. Computing surfaces are compose...
